Rugby

Senior rugby

Rugby is the major sport for boys in the winter and spring term with an afternoon games lesson in dedicated to training. Regular matches on Saturdays see Kings Priory School maintain an impressive set of fixtures against the majority of the rugby playing schools in the North East. This fixture list gives all pupils an experience of playing competitive rugby, whether in the U12 C team or in the First XV competing in local and even national competitions.

The main aim of the school is to develop individual players to achieve their potential in an enjoyable and challenging environment. Pupils are supported to fulfil their potential by experienced and dedicated staff who help players continually strive to improve their skills.

We encourage as many players as possible into the elite pathway system, nominating players to area, County squads and the Newcastle Falcons Academy. We work closely with these organisations so that players are supported at every level in representative rugby.

Touring is very much part of the school’s rugby experience. Tours are an excellent opportunity to develop teamwork and expose pupils to the wider world of the game. The senior rugby squad tour every year with a visit to Holland in October 2015 the latest destination.

We also host touring sides ourselves, with visitors from Argentina a feature of the early part of the 2015-16 season. 38 Argentinian students arrived for a three day stay at the school, playing two very competitive matches in what was a fantastic occasion for all involved.
