Attendance and Punctuality

Attendance and Punctuality

Attendance matters grunge rubber stamp vector 20128359Pupils at Kings Priory School are expected to attend regularly to take full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them. Regular attendance and educational attainment are inextricably linked.

Kings Priory School expects all to pupils to aim for 100% attendance. There is evidence to show that pupils who are punctual and achieve a high level of attendance are given the best access to high quality teaching and learning opportunities and will leave school with better qualifications and access to greater employment opportunities.

What are the expectations at KPS?

  • ALL pupils make a significant effort to meet our target for 100% attendance every day.
  • Be on time to registration and ALL lessons.

Pupils attendance levels will be measured against the following criteria and support offered as appropriate.

96 – 100% Attendance - Excellent achievement - on track to achieve social and academic success.

92.1 – 95.9% Attendance - Good achievement – keep on track to achieve social and academic success.

Below 92% Attendance - Your child's pastoral team will monitor absence on a daily basis and call home when concerned. Contact home will be made where appropriate to offer guidance and support to encourage attendance levels to improve.

Below 90% Attendance - At risk of persistent absence from school will be issued with a request for parents to attend a meeting with the Pastoral Team. Strategies to improve attendance levels will be agreed & attendance targets formally issued.

Kings Priory School strives to provide a welcoming, caring environment, whereby each member of the school community feels safe, valued, happy, accepted, and included. Our goal is that all pupils reach their full potential.

What parents can expect from school

  • Careful monitoring of attendance...
  • Day to day contact including telephone calls and text messages.
  • Home visits.
  • Attendance letter.
  • Referrals to Education Welfare Service.
  • Bespoke support from pastoral teams.

Punctuality

When a pupil is late to school it can seriously impact their emotional and academic wellbeing. It can also impact those pupils around them if a teacher has to interrupt a lesson to receive a late pupil.

ALL pupils must arrive at school in time for registration. See below for details of times.

Broken weeks

Every week is made up of ten sessions (two a day). If any one of these sessions is missed, regardless of the reason and whether it was authorised absence, the week is called a ‘broken week’. This is because lessons often build on each other, so missing a lesson can have a negative impact for a child’s confidence and their understanding of the teaching. Even if your child’s attendance percentage is high, you may be contacted by the relevant pastoral leader if there are lots of broken weeks.
