Welcome to the Sixth Form
The Sixth Form is often described as the most challenging and demanding, yet enjoyable and rewarding, time of your school career. This is certainly the case at Kings Priory School.
Sixth Form Tour Morning - Saturday 24 April
We are delighted to invite any external applicants interested in joining Year 12 in September to our tour morning on Saturday 24 April 2021. The morning will be held between 10.00am and 1.00pm, with each applicant assigned a thirty minute time slot to ensure social distancing. Applicants will be able to visit the Sixth Form centre and other school facilities, whilst the Sixth Form team and Senior Prefects will be on hand to answer any questions.
If you are interested in attending, please complete the Google Form via the link below, indicating all of the time slots you are able to attend. A letter will be sent to all applicants in the week prior to the tour morning confirming your thirty minute slot, in addition to further information about the morning in line with national restrictions at the time:
If you are unable to attend on 24 April but would like a tour of the school at another time, please contact Mr Steve Oldham at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The opportunities in and out of the classroom are endless, even though the challenges both academically and personally are more rigorous and fulfilling. There is a much greater emphasis on independent study in the Sixth Form to develop and harness those essential skills needed in the 21st century.
With a well established academic A Level curriculum, strong Oxbridge and Russell Group success and a proven track record of excellent A Level results, Kings Priory School has so much to offer Sixth Form students. A supportive pastoral environment where students are well-known to staff underpins life in the Sixth Form, where the academic success is complimented by other valuable experiences.
We are an academic Sixth Form and therefore offer a broad and rigorous curriculum of twenty two A Level courses. Alongside core subjects such as Maths, English and the Sciences, students are able to opt for more technical subjects such as Art, Music and PE, a range of Modern Foreign Languages and new subjects which may not have been studied at GCSE like Politics, Psychology and Economics. Details of our full subject offer can be found here in the Sixth Form Curriculum section.
Our Sixth Form
In 2020 Kings Priory School enjoyed a 100% A*-E pass rate at A Level with 90% of grades attained being A*-C. Over 80% of students celebrated by accepting a place at their university of choice, with nearly 46% headed for a place at a prestigious Russell Group University to study a wide range of courses. Every year since opening in 2013, at least one student has gone to Oxbridge from Kings Priory School studying courses from PPE to Computer Science.
We offer a traditional Post-16 curriculum: we value academic achievement, have the highest expectations of our students and encourage wide participation in a range of enrichment and extra-curricular opportunities. We value all students' views and delight in their support in many day-to-day activities that help with the smooth running of the School.
So with easy transport links to both sides of the River Tyne and our location right next to the Metro in the heart of the coastal village of Tynemouth, where else would you want to study?
The best way to see what our Sixth Form is all about is to come and visit us. You will see our stimulating yet supportive and friendly school that recognises the significance of personal and corporate responsibility in a respectful community.
