Admissions Information
Thank you for considering Kings Priory School as the school of choice for your son or daughter. Kings Priory School is a popular and growing all-through Academy and we are delighted that it has become such a popular choice for many parents.
Applying to Kings Priory School
The school’s main points of admission are Reception, Year 7 and Sixth Form (Year 12)
Applications for places for Reception and Year 7 should be made using the North Tyneside Council common application process which is available on the Council's website.
There is no separate application form for Kings Priory School for these year groups.
Admission to year groups other than those relating to the age groups to which children will normally be admitted depends on spaces becoming available in those year groups (e.g. when a current family relocates to another area)
Fair Access Protocol
We participate in North Tyneside Local Authority, Fair Access Protocol. This helps to ensure that all children including those that are unplaced and vulnerable, or having difficulty in securing a school place in-year, get access to a school place as quickly as possible.

Waiting Lists
Waiting List Process
Kings Priory School maintains a waiting list for every year group where demand exceeds available capacity. It is important for parents to understand that this list functions as a fluid "pool of interest" rather than a static queue.
Key Information for Parents
- Duration: The waiting list remains active until the end of the current academic year.
- Requesting a Place: Following an unsuccessful application, any parent may request that their child’s name be added to the list.
- Management: The school maintains these records to ensure all applications are handled fairly.
- Allocation Process: When a vacancy arises, places are not offered based on how long a child has been waiting. Instead, the relevant oversubscription criteria are applied to the entire pool of applicants at that specific moment.
Criteria Applied by Year Group
When a place becomes available, we apply the specific admission criteria designated for that age group:
|
Year Group Range |
Applicable Criteria |
|
Reception to Year 6 |
1 - Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) who have named the school are admitted. 2 - Looked After and Previously Looked After Children 3 - Siblings of full, step, half, adopted, or fostered brother or sister who are on roll at the school at the time of application. 4 - Children of Staff: Where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years, or is recruited to fill a vacant position with a demonstrable skill shortage. 5 - Proximity to School (Distance): Children living closest to the school (Percy Park site), measured by a straight line. Please note Kings Priory School does not have a catchment area. |
|
Year 7 to Year 11 |
1 - Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) who have named the school are admitted. 2 - Looked After and Previously Looked After Children. 3 - Siblings. 4 - Children of Staff. 5 - Music Aptitude: Up to 10% of the intake who demonstrate an aptitude for Music through a school-administered audition and test. This must be made clear on the application form. 6 - Random Allocation: Remaining places are offered via random allocation supervised independently. |
|
Year 12 to Year 13 |
The majority of places will be allocated to pupils already on roll in Kings Priory School’s Year 11. In addition, a number of places will be available to external applicants. All pupils will need to satisfy minimum entrance requirements to the courses for which they are applying. Priority for the allocation of places will go to internal applicants; i.e. pupils already on roll in Kings Priory School’s Year 11. When there are more external applicants that satisfy any academic entry requirements than the published admission number then the following criteria is applied: 1 - Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) who have named the school are admitted. 2 - Looked After and Previously Looked After Children. 3 - Siblings. 4 - Children of Staff. 5 - Random Allocation: Remaining places are offered via random allocation supervised independently. |
This approach ensures that every child in the pool is given equal opportunity in accordance with the School Admissions Code.
