Middle School Year 5-8
Middle School (Years 5-8)
Years 5-7
In year 5, pupils have an annual University visit to one of the region’s institutions.
In years 5 and 6, pupils have planned bi-annual visits from employers across a range of sectors including areas of strategic growth in the North East, such as the Digital sector.
In Year 7, pupils take part in the Young Enterprise ‘Grow £5’ initiative to develop their employability skills.
Year 8
Pupils receive impartial advice from North Tyneside Connexions advisors prior to making their GCSE options in the spring of Year 8. These sessions are usually delivered by a number of advisors in small groups.
This (alongside advice given by teaching staff, tutors and our careers lead and careers co-ordinators in school) ensures that the choices made by pupils are well-informed and appropriate.
Vulnerable pupils including those with SEND are also given additional support and guidance in bespoke session delivered by our Careers co-ordinator prior to making their option choices.
Pupils and parents are all invited to attend our Year 8 Curriculum Open Evening during the first half of the spring term to help cement the appropriate GCSE pathway choices for Year 9.
